Syllabus
Learning is not compulsory; it’s voluntary. Improvement is not compulsory; it’s voluntary. But to survive, we must learn. ~ W. Edwards Deming (Voehl 1995)
A syllabus can take many forms. In this example, the syllabus contains “boilerplate” information, which is typically taken from the course catalog (e.g., the course description and prerequisites), and course policies set by the instructor. A detailed list of topics may be found on the schedule.

Course Description
The course description (along with other metadata) is in _data/course.yaml
. Using a data file allows the information to be included on various pages, such as the home page and syllabus without duplicating it. See Jekyll’s Data Files documentation for more details about data files.
Note that some configuration, such as the course title and description, also appears in _config.yaml
due to design of the minima theme.
